Gray's illness serious enough to land him in hospital

OAKLAND – Sonny Gray’s illness was serious enough to land him in the hospital Monday night, and A’s manager Bob Melvin said he wasn’t sure when his ace right-hander might be released.

Gray has been battling what the A’s have labeled “flu-like symptoms” for the past couple days. But his condition took a turn for the worse Monday night.

“He didn’t feel great during the day,” Melvin said. “It got worse last night to the point they had to bring him in to the hospital. I talked to him this morning. He still sounded pretty weak but said he was a lot better than he felt last night.
