ST.PETERSBURG -- Athletics ace Sonny Gray left Sunday's game against the Rays at Tropicana Field after the fifth inning with a right ankle contusion.

With one on and no outs in the fourth inning, Rays first baseman James Loney lined a 1-2 pitch up the middle and off the right leg of Gray, who chased down the ball and got the out.

After being looked at by the trainers and tossing a few warmup pitches, Gray stayed in the game to finish the inning and pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth, but was replaced by Dan Otero to start the sixth with the A's leading, 5-0.
