Emma Carpenter shot a 3-over 75 to sit in a tie for 13th place after the first round of the Class 2A Girls Golf State Tournament at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur on Friday.
The DeKalb sophomore was four strokes behind the leading score of 71, held by seven different golfers.
At the 3A boys tournament at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington, DeKalb senior Austin Freeman shot a 76, putting him in a tie for 26th place.
In the 2A boys tournament at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University, Kaneland senior Jake Hed carded a 77 and finished the day in a tie for 22nd place, just four strokes off the four leaders.
