FUKUOKA, Japan – UNC senior diver Arånza Vazquez Moñtano, a member of the Mexico swimming and diving team, won bronze in the one-meter springboard competition at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships on Saturday.
China's Lin Shan beat teammate and defending champion Li Yajie to win the gold medal. Lin totaled 318.60 points for the victory, followed by Li with 306.35. Vazquez took bronze with a score of 285.05, securing a quota for Mexico at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
It was the first world championship medal for Vazquez, who represented the Mexico delegation to the 2020 Tokyo Games and will likely participate in her second Olympic Games next year.
