UNC women's basketball falls to Duke, 95-71, in regular-season finale

Despite significant contributions from its first-years, the North Carolina women’s basketball team (14-15, 3-13 ACC) fell to No. 13 Duke (25-4, 13-3 ACC) on Sunday in Carmichael Arena, 95-71.

What happened?

The game got off to a fast start, with both teams trading baskets in the opening minutes. After first-year guard Olivia Smith hit her second three pointer of the period, the Tar Heels only trailed, 11-10.

But, as the first quarter went on, the Blue Devils began to pull away by taking advantage of their size in the paint. Duke outrebounded UNC, 14-9, in the quarter while scoring seven second chance points.
