GREENSBORO, N.C.—North Carolina’s First Varsity Eight was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week Tuesday after defeating Georgetown and West Virginia in separate races, held last Friday on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C.
The Tar Heels, coached by Sarah Haney, defeated Georgetown (7:05.24) by more than five seconds, posting a time of 7:00.9. The win led a UNC effort that reclaimed the Class of 2006 Cup from Georgetown. The Class of 2006 Cup goes to the winner of the North Carolina-Georgetown First Varsity Eight race each year. The Hoyas had maintained control of the Cup for the past four years.
