North Carolina has lost a second treasured men’s basketball coach in relatively short order with the death of Bill Guthridge, the decades-long assistant coach and wingman to the legendary Dean Smith. Guthridge, who later succeeded Smith as the Tar Heels’ head coach, died Tuesday night at the age of 77, a little more than three months after Smith’s death Feb. 7. (Burlington Times-News)
