A group of 21 Carolina fencers competed on Saturday at NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals, hosted by Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Results from the event are combined with season performances to determine the NCAA Championships field, which will be announced on Tuesday.
Top Tar Heel finishers for the men’s team were senior Michael Gopman Slonim, who was 12th in epee, and sophomore Matthew Garrelick, who placed 13th in sabre.
On the women’s side, freshman Justine de Grasse was 10th in epee, junior Meredith Bozentka was 12th in sabre and senior Amanda Lalezarian was 15th in foil.
