PINEHURST, N.C. – Joshua Martin, a native of Pinehurst and a freshman at the University of North Carolina, shot an 8-under 64 to win a rain-shortened Carolinas Young Amateur golf tournament at the Pinewild Country Club.
Martin defeated Tim Conover of Holly Springs by one stroke. Martin was 3-under through nine holes in Wednesday’s second round before it was cancelled due to rain.
Martin started in all four of UNC’s fall tournaments and had a pair of top seven finishes.
The Tar Heels begin the spring season on February 1st in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
