Four Years In, Pen Pal Program Is Going Strong

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In today's world of emails and text messages, handwritten notes have increasingly become a rarity. That is not the case, however, in the halls of New Hope Elementary School and Loudermilk Center for Excellence, thanks to a Pen Pal Project led by UNC student-athletes, who have revived the art of letter-writing in order to help local elementary school students develop their writing skills. The 2016-17 school year marked the fourth year of the program for UNC student-athletes, who exchanged six letters over the course of the year with students at New Hope.

More than 300 Tar Heel student-athletes participated in the program, corresponding with third, fourth, and fifth grade students at New Hope.
