Day One of Riviera/ITA Qualifying In The Books

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - North Carolina freshman Jessie Aney continued her stellar play at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship on Tuesday with a pair of singles victories in the qualifying draw.

Aney opened the day with a three-set victory, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, over No. 73 Wendy Zhang, a sophomore from the University of Miami.

The next opponent was No. 9 seed Courtney Colton of Vanderbilt, the 34th-ranked singles player in the country. Again, Aney dropped the opening set 4-6, before storming back with 6-1 and 6-0 victories in the second and third sets, respectively over a senior that was vital to the Commodores winning the 2015 NCAA team title.
