Mike McCarthy adjusting to not having play-calling duties

Packers coach Mike McCarthy may need to find a whistle to twirl, or learn card tricks.

Because even though he joked that he was “bored stiff” in his first game not calling offensive plays, the result was good enough in their preseason opener that he was encouraged by the progress of the new process.

It looked like I didn’t know what to do with my hands?” McCarthy said, via Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com. “That’s funny. I’ll work on it. I’ll go look at the tape.”

But even though he ceded his normal play-calling charts, the Packers offense showed promise at various times and with various personnel throughout their game against the Patriots.
