Denver Broncos opt for safe choice, name Trevor Siemian 'permanent' starting QB

Draft pedigree isn’t everything.

That’s essentially what Denver Broncos new head coach Vance Joseph said on Monday when he named Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015 from Northwestern, the “permanent” starter over Paxton Lynch, whom Denver moved up in Round 1 to select 26th overall last year.

The two quarterbacks were said to have a clean slate under the new coaching staff, including Joseph and offensive coordinator Mike McCoy this season in their battle for the starting job. But Siemian, who was 8-6 as the Broncos’ starter last season, had a leg up on Lynch most of this offseason largely because of his football IQ and NFL starting experience.
