Yankees don't plan to sign free agent infielder
New York currently has vacant starting positions at both second and third base, and they have explored making trades to fill both needs. However, they have since cooled on those pursuits and have had “minimal” contact with free-agent infielders because of their confidence in internal options at the position, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The rookies in the mix to get starting time for the Yankees at those positions are Gleyber Torres, Miguel Anjuar, Tyler Wade, and Thiaro Estrada. Torres is considered a top prospect in baseball and Miguel Andujar is also a highly regarded prospect. Wade struggled last season, hitting only .155, but is great on defense and Estrada played well in Double-A Trenton, hitting .301 in 122 games.

One less suitor for possible Jacoby Ellsbury deal
Given the logjam in the outfield created by the Giancarlo Stanton trade, the Yankees have had Jacoby Ellsbury on the trade block in an effort to part with him and the $68 million he has left on his contract over the next three years.

The San Francisco Giants were one of the handful of teams interested in him, but they have signed outfielder Austin Jackson to a two-year deal worth $6 million, according to Jon Heyman. That signing means they are no longer interested in the 34-year-old Ellsbury.

New York is so eager to part with Ellsbury that they are willing to absorb half of his contract. He hit .264 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs in 112 games last season.

Yankees are interested in Michael Fulmer
The Yankees have been targeting starting pitching all offseason, and since they are no longer chasing Yu Darvish, it appears they have shifted the attention to Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer. According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Yankees and Tigers have discussed a deal that could send Fulmer to the Bronx.

One possible explanation for the lack of a Darvish deal is the availability of right-handers Chris Archer (Rays) and Michael Fulmer (Tigers) on the trade market. Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported last month that the Yankees had looked at both starting pitchers, and one source confirmed to MLB.com that the Tigers and Yankees have had trade discussions regarding Fulmer.

Fulmer had a 10-12 record with a 3.83 ERA in 164.2 innings pitched last season.
