Zack Britton’s most dangerous asset is back in his control

TAMPA — Zack Britton became one of the game’s top closers with Baltimore thanks to his devastating sinker, a pitch he had trouble commanding last season as he recovered from the Achilles surgery he underwent in December 2017.

The Yankees are banking on the pitch returning to its full effectiveness after signing him to a three-year, $39 million deal in the offseason.

The proof won’t be there until he faces live competition, but through the early part of camp, Britton is confident his sinker is back.

The difference in the pitch from last year to this spring is command.
