Yankees sling mud — in support of childhood cancer research

Modal Trigger

Sonny Gray smears mud on Brett Gardner's head Monday in White Plains.

Cindy Campbell believes her late son Ty would’ve particularly loved seeing Brett Gardner’s bald head covered in mud.

“He would’ve thought that was the funniest thing he’s ever seen,” said Campbell, who lost her 5-year-old son to brain cancer in 2012. “He got a kick out of that stuff, he really did.”

Ty had told his parents he wished to jump around in muddy puddles in order to make him feel better after undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries.
