Yankees' Brian Cashman reacts to Aroldis Chapman's arbitration impasse

NEW YORK — Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was mum Thursday night regarding the upcoming salary arbitration hearing between the club and closer Aroldis Chapman.

"If you can't make a deal," Cashman told NJ Advance Media at New York Yankees Steakhouse in Manhattan, "someone else makes it for you."

Chapman and the Yankees are expected to go before an arbitrator Feb. 19, a day after pitchers and catchers report to the organization's complex in Tampa, Fla., for spring training. Jon Heyman first reported the hearing.

Cashman also declined detail the gulf between the Yankees and Chapman, one of the game's best relievers and its undisputed hardest thrower who's expected to become a free agent in 2017.
