Tyler Austin needed one at-bat to do what rest of MLB couldn’t

BOSTON — For the past six seasons, few pitchers have dominated the Yankees more than Chris Sale.

On Saturday, the Yankees found an unlikely antidote in Tyler Austin.

Manager Joe Girardi started Austin at designated hitter in Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Red Sox, hitting eighth.

Austin hadn’t faced Sale before Saturday, but in his brief MLB career, Austin has clobbered left-handed pitching. Entering the game, Austin had 35 plate appearances against southpaws and was 11-for-29 with three homers and a 1.181 OPS.

What he did against Sale was just as impressive.

Austin hit a three-run blast in the top of the second and gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
