"It felt like it kind of got jammed a little bit when I went back in," Ackley said. "I couldn't really tell exactly what happened. I've never had any shoulder things in the past before, so it's hard for me to pinpoint what it was."
Ackley did not join the team on their charter out of Tampa, instead staying back to prepare for an MRI. He was replaced by Mark Teixeira, who has been bothered by neck spasms and hadn't played since Tuesday.
Girardi has also played Austin Romine at first, and he indicated the possibility of playing Brian McCann or Ronald Torreyes there as the Yankees continue to dive into their depth with the latest attrition.
