10 Yankees things we learned on Opening Day

The Yankees lost outfielder Jake Cove to Cincinnati in the Rule 5 draft last December, then got the left-handed hitter back Tuesday when the Reds didn’t keep him on their season-opening roster. Cove, 23, will open 2016 where he spent most of 2015 … playing for the Class AA Trenton Thunder in the Eastern League. The 2011 sixth-round pick hit .269 with two homers, 37 RBIs and 17 steals in 125 games last season for Trenton and hit .458 with two RBIs in seven Class AAA games for Scranton-Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees’ new fourth outfielder made a big mistake in his first game wearing pinstripes, and he didn’t sugarcoat it.
