Yankees Rumors: Brian McCann signing to allow Yankees to trade Francisco Cervelli?

With Opening Day under two weeks away, Yankees rumors are going to take flight with all sorts of trade rumors with a host of different possible trade partners.

Furthermore, it could be one of their marquee signings from this past offseason which sets those New York Yankees rumors in motion.

Ken Davidoff, Major League Baseball columnist for the New York Post, posits in his latest article that the Yankees could use former Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann's presence on the roster to facilitate a possible trade in the very near future--

"Thanks to the presence of McCann, the Yankees can entertain the notion of trading another catcher, with the out-of-options Francisco Cervelli the most obvious chip. ESPN’s Buster Olney first pointed out a potential match between the Pirates, who need catching (after losing former Yankees catcher Chris Stewart to right knee surgery) and boast of excess relievers, and the Yankees, who appear to be the opposite."

The Pittsburgh Pirates have kept a close eye on Cervelli, who has impressed them according to several MLB sources. The New York Yankees are also high on the 28-year-old catcher, yet the luxury is there to trade him for a possible piece in either the infield or the bullpen.

Francisco Cervelli appeared in just 17 games with the Yankees due to complications in recovery from a broken hand. In just 52 total at-bats, Cervelli hit .269 with three home runs and eight RBIs.
