Yankees News: Masahiro Tanaka "Absolutely" Wants To Be New York's Opening Day Starter

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is rumored to be considering both CC Sabathia and a returning Masahiro Tanaka as the team's Opening Day starter against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 6th.

In response to that, Tanaka has verbalized his desire to take the ball and get the season started off right.

Per Shawn Krest of CBS Sports, "Sabathia has said that he doesn't care if he gets the call on Opening Day, Tanaka said he "absolutely" wants to pitch the opener, according to NJ.com's Brendan Kuty."

Sabathia has already made 11 Opening Day starts in his career, including taking the hill for the New York Yankees each of the last six season openers. Tanaka, on the other hand, has only done it once, while he was pitching in Japan.

Tanaka has made two Spring Training outings so far, showing limited ill effects from the partially-torn UCL in his right elbow.
