Growing up in Miami, Rangers righthander Nick Martinez, a Fordham kid, always looked up to Alex Rodriguez.
He even got his autograph on two occasions through a connection he had with his high school coach at Belen Jesuit Prep.
So when Rodriguez, Miami kid himself, broke up Martinez’s no-hit bid on Saturday in the fourth inning with an infield single, eventually reaching second on a throwing error,
the two shared a moment during a lull in the action that Martinez nearly beamed about later.
Martinez says that A-Rod gave him a little salute at second base and nodded in his direction with the Rangers up 10-0.
