Rangers recall goaltender Alexandar Georgiev

The Rangers on Monday recalled goaltender Alexandar Georgiev Monday from his two-game stint with AHL Hartford over the weekend.

Goaltender Marek Mazanec was returned to Hartford.

Georgiev, who was sent down to Hartford on Thursday, backstopped the Wolf Pack to a 4-3 win Friday in Belleville, Ontario, and played in a 3-2 loss Saturday in Toronto. In the two games, he stopped 57 of 63 shots for a .905 save percentage.

Georgiev, 22, won the job of being the backup to starting goalie Henrik Lundqvist in training camp, but both GM Jeff Gorton and coach David Quinn said when the Rangers named their final roster that the team knew Georgiev would need to play games and it would be willing to send him to Hartford to get some ice time if he wasn't playing enough at the NHL level.
