Rangers' coach Alain Vigneault likes Islanders' grit

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Here’s a twist: A Rangers coach saying the Blueshirts can learn a thing or two from the rival Islanders.

First lesson: Play with more urgency.

“I don’t believe at all that the New York Islanders are a last-place team, but in the standings at this time they are [in the Eastern Conference],” coach Alain Vigneault said Friday. “But in the last two days, they beat the Stanley Cup champions, and the next day, they had the President’s Trophy-winning team waiting for them fresh, at home, and they beat them. That’s how competitive the NHL is: Any team on any given night can beat any other team.
