How Nick Holden could balance out the Rangers’ defense

Four lefties into three slots won’t go, so that is why following Thursday night’s exhibition 3-1 victory over the Devils at the Garden, Nick Holden will get a long look on the right side of the Blueshirts’ defense.

“I’ve talked to Nick and he feels confident there and has more experience there,” coach Alain Vigneault said, who also has the option of moving young Brady Skjei to his off-side. “I wanted to get through the first two games [with guys playing their natural positions], but we’ll be doing some experimenting after this.”

Holden is the mobile, late-blooming 29-year-old the Rangers acquired in June from Colorado for the absurdly bargain price of a fourth-round draft pick.
