Eric Staal scores twice, but Rangers fall to Penguins in OT

Eric Staal had his most productive game as a Ranger, scoring twice Sunday night, but the surging Penguins were too much for the Blueshirts, as Sidney Crosby scored on a deflection of Kris Letang’s shot with 29.5 seconds left in overtime to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 victory.

With the score tied at 2 late in regulation, Derick Brassard high-sticked Ben Lovejoy, and the Penguins opened overtime with a four-on-three that the Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist killed to the delight of the Madison Square Garden crowd.

But Crosby’s tip, which also hit Mats Zuccarello in front before bouncing past Lundqvist (29 saves) for his 32nd goal, ended the Rangers’ three-game winning streak and tightened the Metropolitan Division standings.
