Martin St. Louis retires from NHL after 16 seasons

Martin St. Louis wasn't drafted into the NHL, and ever since, the joke has been on every general manager who decided the undersized right wing couldn't play at hockey's highest level.

St. Louis, 40, an indomitable and relentless 5-foot-8 star, used the fire of proving everyone else wrong to build an unquestionable Hall of Fame career until he announced his retirement through the Rangers, his final employer, early Thursday afternoon.

He hangs up his skates after scoring 391 regular-season goals and 1,033 points through 1134 games spread across 16 years, making seven All-Star teams. In the playoffs, he shined to the tune of 42 goals and 90 points in 107 postseason games.
