What looked like a backbreaker becomes a stunning Mets rally

PHOENIX — Brandon Nimmo and Asdrubal Cabrera put an exclamation point on an improbable rally to conclude Father’s Day in the desert for the Mets.

Just about roadkill, on the verge of another maddening defeat, the Mets cobbled together a rally that ranked as maybe their greatest of 2018.

The ninth-inning comeback culminated with Nimmo stroking a two-run, go-ahead homer against Brad Boxberger and Cabrera following with an insurance blast in a 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

The Mets (30-38) have consecutive victories for the first time since May 21 and will have a little extra bounce in their step as they prepare to begin a four-game series in Colorado on Monday.
