Mets officials were at the recently concluded General Managers meetings, but like laid-back guests at a raucous party out of obligation rather than eagerness.

The end of the World Series brought a Running of the Bulls intensity throughout the sport, fueled largely by so many new heads of baseball operations wanting to make their marks and the initial jockeying by teams and representatives around one of the deepest free agent classes ever.

The Mets, meanwhile, were more observers than participants. This had to do with playing to the last out of the season in the World Series, and thus getting a later entrance to the offseason.
