Mets: The latest on Ben Zobrist

The Mets have reportedly made free-agent IF/OF Ben Zobrist their top target, but Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says the Mets will likely not sign Zobrist if he winds up getting a four-year deal.

MLB Trade Rumors predicted earlier this offseason that Zobrist would eventually sign a three-year deal worth $51 million.

Rubin notes that if the Mets signed Zobrist, they would use him primarily at second base, and give him starts at third base during David Wright‘s days off.

Zobrist, 34, hit .276/.359/.450 to go along with 13 HR and 56 RBI in 126 games split between the Athletics and Royals this past season.
