Mets scratch deGrom with rain threatening NY

NEW YORK -- Concerned that rainy Queens weather would impact his start, the Mets scratched Jacob deGrom from his Thursday outing against the Padres at Citi Field. Rafael Montero will start in deGrom's place.

DeGrom has no physical issues, according to manager Terry Collins. But the team did not want him to start and ensure a lengthy delay, and deGrom agreed. He will start Friday's series opener in Pittsburgh.

The move means the Mets are no longer in search of a starting pitcher for Saturday's game. Both Montero and Josh Smoker were candidates for that start.
