Don’t blame the bone spur.
Despite a full week of rest between starts, Noah Syndergaard’s inconsistent month continued Tuesday in the Mets’ 3-2 loss to the Cardinals at Citi Field, resulting in his third defeat in his past five starts.
Syndergaard (9-5) lasted six innings, allowing three runs (two earned), seven hits and three walks, while striking out eight.
Since the revelation he is pitching with a bone spur in his throwing arm — he was also removed from a July 8 start with a “dead arm” — Syndergaard has struggled to channel his early-season dominance, but manager Terry Collins said before the opening game of the doubleheader that the condition isn’t preventing Syndergaard from still throwing like an unhittable ace.
