Flurry of movement may net Mets a ‘great’ presence in clubhouse

The trade most knew about finally became official late Friday — the Mets had acquired Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson and cash from the Braves in exchange for minor league pitchers John Gant and Kevin Whelan.

To make room for the two new players, John Mayberry Jr., who hit cleanup Thursday night, was designated for assignment and infielder Danny Muno was optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas. Additionally, the Mets transferred David Wright to the 60-day disabled list.

The Mets could not comment on the trade before departing, but former Met Justin Turner, who played with Uribe with the Dodgers this year, gave high praise.
