Colon Tosses 7 Strong Innings As Mets Beat Cards 3-1 For Doubleheader Split

NEW YORK -- Bartolo Colon pitched seven strong innings and combined with two relievers on a three-hitter as the New York Mets earned a split of their doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap on Tuesday.

Colon (9-5) rebounded from three consecutive starts that did not last beyond 5 2/3 innings by allowing a run and three hits. It was the fifth time he lasted at least seven innings and allowed one run this season.

Colon finished his 227th career win by getting eight strikeouts without a walk, marking the eight time the right-hander did not issue a free pass this season.
