Astros nab Gourriel – what’s next for the Mets?

The New York Mets were hoping for an offensive jolt from Cuba native, Yulieski Gourriel. They even held a private workout for him just last month. However, this jolt will not be coming as Gourriel will be reportedly set to sign with the Houston Astros. The contract is reported to be worth $47.5 million over five years pending a physical.

The Astros won the battle for the 32-year old third baseman over Los Angeles, both New York teams, and San Francisco who all reportedly showed interest. Gourriel’s situation creates a logjam on the Astros’ left side of the infield now with top prospect, Alex Bregman on the brink of being called up to the big leagues but that’s another story.
