Noah Syndergaard Is Front and Center in Mets’ New Six-Man Rotation

The fastball came in low, just 89 miles an hour, tailing a bit from the Mets’ batter but still on the plate. Noah Syndergaard unleashed a furious left-handed swing, like another lefty hitter in the National League East who wears No. 34. This was not Bryce Harper batting, but the result made it seem that way: a laser over the center field wall, just to the left of the Home Run Apple at Citi Field.

“I was running around the bases like, ‘What happened?’ ” Syndergaard said Wednesday. “I kind of shocked myself.”

No wonder, because Syndergaard, of course, is a pitcher.
