Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Niese fail to pitch past fifth inning

The rubber game of the Subway Series saw both starting pitchers get bounced by the sixth inning at Yankee Stadium Sunday night.

Yankees right-hander Nathan Eovaldi watched Mets rightfielder Curtis Granderson lead off the game with a home run, and Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez took Mets starter Jon Niese deep in the bottom of the first. Eovaldi, who struggled to keep the ball down in the zone as he tried to control his off-speed pitches, surrendered four earned runs by the time manager Joe Girardi came to get him with one out in the fifth. Mets manager Terry Collins hooked Niese after five as the Yankess claimed the 6-4 victory.
