Does Daniel Murphy fit into the Mets' long-term plans?

In today's Mets rumors and news update, after New York Mets reportedly took calls on All-Star second baseman Daniel Murphy this offseason. However, that doesn't mean that Mets brass are looking to unload the talented youngster.

"That’s something that will get worked out over time," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told The Star-Ledger about Murphy's long-term prospects with the organization. "So I don’t know if it’s really appropriate for me to talk about that now. He’s been a member of the organization for quite a long time. He’s appreciated by us and by the fans so both of those things carry some weight.”

The Mets currently have one more year of control over Murphy, already avoiding arbitration once last season after agreeing to a $5.7 million salary. However, he could get pricier as he continues to improve and gain notoriety.

However, when asked if he thought that his rising price tag could cause him to be traded, Murphy didn't seem too worried.

"No, I don’t think so," Murphy stated. "I look at it now, the only thing I know about salary now is I’m making way more money this year than I thought I’d ever see in my life. So that’s what I know about salary.”
