Kristaps Porzingis shows tough streak in bang-up Knicks debut

MILWAUKEE — Kristaps Porzingis, the 7-foot-3 rookie, looked shaky at the beginning of Wednesday’s season opener and, like the rest of the Knicks, he got better as the game wore on.

On Porzingis’ most symbolic moment, Langston Galloway missed a fast-break layup. Porzingis grabbed two follows while getting harassed. But he pulled the ball down a third time, got hammered and went to the line for two free throws.

In his NBA debut, Porzingis lived at the free-throw line as he scored 16 points with five rebounds, and made 9 of 12 free throws. If he continues to play with this force, maybe he will be looked at as a Rookie of the Year candidate.
