Knicks on the clock after Pacers part ways with Frank Vogel

Phil Jackson, line 1?

Frank Vogel will not be retained as head coach of the Indiana Pacers, team president Larry Bird announced Thursday morning, a stunning exit that may reshape the Knicks’ coaching search.

“I’ve decided that it’s time for a new voice around here,” Bird said, adding the ouster is “one of the toughest things I’ve done.”

Bird said Vogel, in their meeting earlier Thursday, asked him to reconsider the move not to give him a new contract.

Vogel, with a .580 winning percentage and two conference finals appearances, instantly becomes perhaps the most attractive coach on the market.
