If Phil Jackson can’t bully Carmelo Anthony into accepting a trade, maybe Carmelo Anthony can bully Phil Jackson into a buyout.
While Anthony’s preference remains to stay in New York, an ESPN report cautioned, his camp has tried to start buyout discussions with the Knicks. By allowing Anthony to become a free agent after a buyout, the path would be cleared for him to join buddy LeBron James with the Cavaliers and his quest to knock off the Warriors.
According to the report, the Knicks have not yet entertained this idea, still wanting to rid themselves cleanly of Anthony’s contract and bring back a return via trade.
