Rockets emerging as free agent suitor for Melo in today's Knicks rumors

In today's look into Knicks rumors and news, while the Chicago Bulls are being listed as the favorites to land Carmelo Anthony either via free agency or a sign-and-trade, the Houston Rockets are also emerging as a potential frontrunner for his services.

Per Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, "league sources say that Houston is preparing to make an all-out push to land James when free agency opens on July 1, assuming James opts out, as expected. If the Rockets miss out on James, they will turn their full attention to Carmelo Anthony. Chris Bosh is also on the radar."

The Houston Rockets would have to do a ton of creative maneuvering financially in order to have a legitimate chance at landing Anthony. That includes finding a team or teams to take both Jeremy Lin and Omar Asik's contracts off their hands - deals worth $16 million against their salary cap number.

Anthony could very well opt for a sign-and-trade in this scenario, which makes it possible that the one of the two aforementioned players could find their way to New York in a potential deal.

While this is currently all speculative, the Rockets are primed to make an impact this offseason. Whether or not the Knicks get involved in it is currently up in the air.
