Knicks Rumors Roundup: Melo free agency update, Stoudemire, Bargnani out for cap space?

In this Knicks Rumors Roundup for July 8th, 2014, we will delve into all of the latest news surrounding New York Knicks free agent Carmelo Anthony, along with the Knicks' attempts to clear cap space in order to improve their roster this offseason.

Melo being recruited by a familiar face

Per Dwain Price of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram, former New York Knicks and current Dallas Mavericks guard Raymond Felton would love to be reunited with Melo in the Big D:

Felton's history with Melo is playing a big role in the oft-maligned guard's indirect recruiting pitch to the seven-time NBA All-Star:

Felton also assumed full blame for what was a disastrous 2013-14 season with the Knicks, citing "a lot of injuries" and "mental stuff off the court" as part of the reason for his ineffectiveness during his last season at MSG.

Jackson looking to clear major cap space, add top free agent next to Melo?

According to ESPN New York's Ian Begley, New York Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson is looking to do some major roster cleansing in order to retool the team in free agency this summer:

Knicks president Phil Jackson has talked to multiple teams in recent days -– including the Philadelphia 76ers –- about moving Amar’e Stoudemire in an effort to clear more cap space this summer, sources say.

Moving Stoudemire and his $23.4 million contract would allow the Knicks to take back players in a sign-and-trade and could give them more money to offer free agents such as Pau Gasol

Begley also indicates that Jackson is attempting to ship $11.5 million salary of Andrea Bargnani off as well - perhaps looking to facilitate both re-signing Melo and placing a major complementary star at his side.
