Breaking: Carmelo Anthony to opt out of contract, to Chicago?

Months of Knicks rumors and speculation surrounding New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony will now ramp up with news that Melo will test the waters of free agency this offseason.

Here's the lowdown from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:

Anthony has long since been leaning toward opting for free agency, regardless of if it meant that he would return to the Knicks on a max contract or ply his trade elsewhere.

However, according to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Anthony has been asking people close to the Chicago Bulls what it is like to be a superstar in the Windy City. While Anthony is most likely asking around about all of his potential destinations, Chicago seems to be emerging as an early favorite if he decides to leave the Big Apple.

Melo would have to pass up an extra year of pay in order to make the move to the Bulls, yet he has been intrigued for years about the chance of playing in the shadows of the legendary Michael Jordan.

The Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and LA Lakers are also said to have varied levels of interest in landing the seven-time NBA All-Star, so the courting process should be very interesting as Anthony surveys his options.

Chat Sports will have more on this breaking story as additional information is made available.
