Jets’ Sheldon Richardson, Already Suspended, Is Accused of Resisting Arrest After a Traffic Stop

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson, already suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the N.F.L’s substance abuse policy, said he had recently told the team that it did not have to worry about his name “being in the news again.”

Less than two hours later, the St. Charles County prosecuting attorney’s office in Missouri announced that Richardson had been charged with resisting arrest and several traffic violations after a car he was driving was clocked at 143 miles per hour.

Richardson was arrested on July 14, 12 days after his suspension was announced.
