Jets Place WR Devin Smith On I.R. After Passing Through Waivers Unclaimed

The New York Jets officially placed WR Devin Smith through waivers unclaimed on Tuesday and reverted to the team’s injured reserve list.

The Jets announced close to a month ago that Smith suffered a torn ACL during OTAs and was out for the 2017 season.

Smith, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $5.872 million rookie contract that includes $3.667 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2016, Smith was limited to appearing in just four games and caught one pass for 20 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
