Show me the money that is going to the construction of a single-team sports arena at either Willets Point or Belmont Park — or Utopia, for that matter — and I will believe that there is fire behind the smoke of all this recent talk of the Islanders getting their own building.
Show me the elected official who will get behind public funding for what would become the fifth arena in the area — the Garden, Barclays, Prudential already standing, and a remodeled, downsized Coliseum underway — and I will show you an individual who is fast on his or her way to a new career as a lobbyist.
