The Islanders’ poor special teams play was the topic of conversation after their morning skate Wednesday. The tone was different after a crisp 60 minutes of hockey snapped a two-game losing streak.
Their all-and-important play when up or down a man — which figured prominently in two straight losses — turned Wednesday night in a feisty and dominant 3-1 win over the Flyers at Barclays Center. Not only did the Islanders kill off three Flyers power plays, but they scored on one of them, too.
“We have to clean up our special teams if we want to be successful,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said before the match.
