The stomach bug that’s been circulating the Islanders locker room released its grip on Johnny Boychuk, allowing the defenseman to return after missing Tuesday’s game. But Ryan Strome fell ill and was out of Thursday’s lineup.
Boychuk’s return to health meant Scott Mayfield took a seat as a healthy scratch, perhaps unjustly after he scored the opening goal of Tuesday’s 4-2 win. Mayfield has a goal and two assists in his last two games with the Isles, even though those games were six days apart.
“It’s tough for him, he’s been in and out,” Jack Capuano said.
